Rosenborg was determined to change its poor away-match statistics from last year, but was defeated in its first attempt.
Rosenborg had the ball a lot on the new artificial grass pitch at Marienlyst, but did not manage to get to the level of play they wanted. With little cooperation between the defence and the midfield, Rosenborg soon got into trouble.
Only 13 minutes into the match, Strømsgodset got a break in Rosenborg’s half, and showed great attacking skill. The left winger Andersson was played through on the left and gave a low cross to David Nielsen. The Danish striker made no mistake alone with Jarstein and sent the home team ahead.
And bad went to worse for Rosenborg only ten minutes later. Rosenborg’s central defender Vadim Demidov was not allowed back on the field at once after getting David Nielsen’s elbow in his face, and Strømsgodset attacked without Rosenborg’s defender in place. Another cross came from the left, and no one marked Nielsen in front of goal, who easily headed in the 2-0 lead.
Roar Strand and Rosenborg increased the performance a bit as the match got closer to half time, and the half ended with a power shot on the crossbar by the Captain.
Rosenborg got back on the pitch for the second half with the intension to turn this score around. “The trolls” put more effort into their attacking play, but made too many mistakes up front, and the Strømsgodset defence was in control of the situation.
The home side did not have many attacks in this half , but were efficient when they did. Strømsgodset broke through on the left again in the 75th minute, and the following cross found the unmarked Stian Ohr right in front of goal. The right winger had no problem scoring Strømsgodset’s third for the evening.
But Rosenborg refused to leave Drammen without scoring. With eight minutes left, substitute Øyvind Storflor made a power shot from 20 metres. Strømsgodset goalie Espen Johnsen, who is on loan from Rosenborg, could only hear the ball as it hit the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Yssouf Koné made a good cross to another substitute, Jo Sondre Aas. The teenager was in a difficult situation but cleverly passed the ball on to Konan who scored from six metres.
But the turnaround and the goals came too late, and Rosenborg was defeated by Strømsgodset with the scoreline 2-3.
