Roar Strand turns 40

Rosenborg´s captain celebrated his 40th birthday in Marbella. The day started with footbal practice, then continued with birthday cake and birthday presents.

Tuesday Roar Strand turned 40. The captain started the 40-year anniversary by waking up roommate Steffen Iversen, who immediately said `Happy Birthday´ to his captain.

- It is a little too much attention for me, but I appreciate that people think of me, Strand says in the RBKTV interview.

Also on his 40th birthday Strand was the first player to appear on the training center in Marbella. And, if possible, he fought and run more than he usually does.

- I have to do my best to keep up with the younger players, he says modestly.

- I talk much about attitude, and Roar is Mr. Attitude, coach Erik Hamrén said after giving Strand his birthday cake. Then the players sang `Happy Birthday´ before they ended the session with Roar´s own supporter song.

His birthday present from his team-mates was a spa-session.

- It will be my spa-debut, the 40-year-old captain told RBKTV.

Roar Strand made his debut for Rosenborg in 1989 and has since played 426 league games (83 goals). He has stayed loyal to the club the entire period, but had a loan spell in Molde in 1993. Strand has won 15 league titles, 5 cup titles and played 71 games in the Champions League (11 goals). 2010 will be his 21st season for Rosenborg.
